Meet Bandit: He was given to Friends of Texas Wild fauna by a Harris County Game Warden on April eighth. He was found in someone'south yard and had spent the night outside, alone and cold. His age was estimated at about a week old. He was very tiny with his eyes yet airtight. When nosotros got him, his torso temperature was way below normal and he was very hungry. He was given an injection of antibiotics and liquid antibiotics were sent abode with him to be given orally for the side by side seven days.

April 19th – Bandit woke upwards this morning hungry, as usual. He was fed him it appeared he was having difficulty urinating. We were very worried nigh him so he was taken to a vet to examine him. He couldn't find anything incorrect so possibly we over-reacted a little. You become that way when information technology comes to the footling ones in your care.

May 1, 2010 – Bandit had a house guest last week. His proper name is Binkie and his foster mama had to get out of town then Binkie moved in. The first nighttime they slept at contrary ends of the muzzle but the 2d night they were curled upwardly beside each other.

May 3, 2010 – Today Brigand gets two new roommates. Our organisation never raises a single raccoon. We always effort to find other orphaned raccoons, close in age, to put with our singles then they can grow up together and exist released together. May x, 2010 – Bandit at present has a blood brother and a sis. Lulu joined Brigand about two weeks ago and Willie joined them after existence held in isolation for ii weeks. Each 1 of them has its own personality. Bandit is chosen the "wild human being". He's very agile and hates being in his cage. It'south a real challenge to feed him, too. He rolls around in all unlike directions until he's comfy which is normally flat on his back.

He's and then ready to settle down and swallow. Lulu is very vocal and very bossy. They have a hammock in their cage and she decides who gets to be on it with her. It's credible she's the boss in the family. Willie is very sweetness and lovable. He likes nothing more to cuddle and stone after he eats. May 18, 2010 – The picayune raccoon family is growing and prospering.  They will be moved into a larger cage—this volition be the third one!  They abound at an amazing step.

They experienced their first solids recently.  They got  Cheerios and some babe cookies.  Information technology'due south hysterical to watch them with something new.  At kickoff, they proceed their distance and merely wait at it.  Then they slowly creep up on information technology and odour it. If information technology smells okay, they'll touch on information technology.  If information technology feels okay, then it goes in the oral fissure.  Since they are only getting in their molars, it'southward still a little difficult for them to chew but they've establish a fashion to enjoy the Cheerios.  They put them in their oral cavity and suck on them until the flavour is gone and and then they spit them out!  Smart footling creatures.

The bedding in their cage is changed every fourth dimension they are fed and that'southward about 4 times a day so laundry stacks upwardly chop-chop.  As rehabbers, we do laundry daily! Additionally, it's not the best smelling bedding since their entire cage is their bath. YUK!

Their favorite place to rest is their hammock.  All three of them climb in and it looks like one big ball of fur.  The hammock has besides taught them how to climb and balance.  It'due south not an easy feat for them to arrive or out. They hang upside down, sideways, and backwards.

They are now interacting with each other a lot more.  After they've had their bottle and have a total tummy, and so it's play fourth dimension.  They ringlet around in the cage, play "attack", and bite each other.  At times, it gets a footling rough and you worry they will injure each other, but again, it'due south how they learn.  They're likewise interacting with their rehabber now.

June 23, 2010 – The Raccoon babies accept turned into juvenile delinquents!   Willie has now learned to open the door on his cage.  It has since been secured so there will be no more surprises!

They are now totally weaned and wolfing down food at an astonishing charge per unit.  They are being fed cat food, boiled eggs, Cheerios, yogurt, chicken and animal crackers.  They are spoiled with cheese crackers with peanut butter on rare occasions .  They love them.  They definitely have a sweet tooth as the creature crackers are their favorite.

They received their second immunization just the other twenty-four hour period.  They have 3 to go before they'll be totally protected against canine and feline diseases.  Nosotros practice this so that once released they'll have the best possible gamble of survival.

August 8, 2010 – Today was moving day and it was none too soon.  Bandit and family unit take been spending their days in an exterior cage and then transferred to an inside cage in the laundry room at night.  It became apparent they were set up to move into a large cage outdoors i morning as the door of the cage was open and hanging by a thread when walking into the laundry room.  They had unscrewed the bolts and taken the door off!   They were running around the laundry room having a great old time.  They must have worked upward an ambition afterward all their partying because they had torn open a bag of dog nutrient which had not yet been transferred to the food bin.

Information technology's standard procedure to allow them play in the laundry room for an hour or so each night.  Their rehabber stays in there with them for two reasons; one, because they are hilarious to watch, and ii, because they go into EVERYTHING!  They think it'due south great fun to take a break every ten minutes or so and grab some food from the food bin.

Bandit is however the biggest of the three and he'south got the belly to bear witness for it.  They're eating all kinds of things now like domestic dog nutrient, apples, bananas, grapes and eggs.  "Cookie fourth dimension" is still their favorite time of the day, even so.  Each nighttime effectually 10:00 they get a bowl full of creature crackers and they are  waiting for their snack before bed.

Lulu is a water baby.  It's so funny to watch her jump in and out of their pool.  She immerses herself in the water until the only matter left out is her head.  She moves her front end and dorsum legs like she's actually swimming.  Estimate she doesn't know it'due south only nigh six inches deep.  Thanks to her exposure to, and fondness for water, she'll be right at habitation in a lake, stream or pond in the wild.

After the cage was moved to the rehabber'south new residence, Bandit honored his namesake by escaping with his adopted brother and sister into the nearby woods.  Since all three were ready for release, a conscious conclusion was made non to return them to their cage.  Some canis familiaris food is left out to ease their transition to the wild.  On occasion they've all come dorsum to visit, looking for food, but its less and less over fourth dimension.  All three of them will now exist fine on their own.
